As the temperature starts to soar, more and more people experience discomforting conditions. Heat strokes, sunburn, and dehydration are some of the side effects of the scorching heat that summer has brings along. To stay healthy in summer it is important that you take enough precautions. In this blog, we will talk about some tips that will help you stay healthy this summer and protected from the blazing sun.

Here are a few tips to stay healthy this summer

Have drinks that really hydrate

First and foremost, it is very important for you to stay hydrated this summer. Sweat is a very common outcome of any physical activity that you perform during hot days. To ensure that there is no loss of water from the body, it is important that you drink plenty of water and other liquids. Health expert’s advice drinking 8 glasses of water per day to stay fully hydrated. A hydrated body is more energetic and has a better ability to avoid exhaustion. To get hydrated well, have sips of any of the following drinks throughout the day in the summers, before you actually begin to feel thirsty and dehydrated: plain water, coconut water, water with lemon and cucumber slices, organic and decaf iced tea, herbal tea, rooibos tea.

Eat healthy and light

It is very important to eat healthy in summer. Thanks to the seasonal fruits and vegetables you get enough nutrients to serve to the body requirements and maintain health during the tougher months. Include salads, juices, yogurt, seasonal fruits and sprouts in your diet to get the required amount of nutrients and minerals.Eat light, small, frequent meals. Heavy meals with large amounts of carbohydrates and fats give rise to a lot of heat in the body. Focus on fresh fruits and vegetables that have high water content – such as oranges, watermelon, tomatoes, etc.
Stay away from spicy food

We Indians love to eat spices. While hot and spicy food serves as a refuge in the winter months, it can wreak havoc on your stomach during the summer season. To deal with hot temperature the body gets heated up internally as well. The internal heat creates acidity which is often aggravated by spicy foods. Thus, it is advisable to eat less oily and spicy food to avoid gastrological problems.

Apply Sunscreen Daily

The importance of applying sunscreen cannot be stressed enough. Sunscreen helps prevent skin cancer and the risk of severe sunburns, also known as sun poisoning. If not careful, this can lead to extreme dehydration and a trip to the hospital. Sunscreen has also been proven to help slow down your skin's aging process. As a general rule, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a 30 SPF minimum. One ounce, or about the size of a shot glass, is considered enough to cover the body.

 Stay Active

Whether you are enjoying your vacations someplace far away, or you are staying in for the season, look for ways to be more active. Explore around your city, take on excursions that require walking or simply hit up the gym for at least 30 minutes a day.

Protect yourself from wounds and injuries

Due to more physical activities in the summer, the chance of getting injuries in any playground or around the pool increase. While playing or doing some activity, your body should wear the right protective equipment to prevent wounds and injuries. Keep your first aid kit or any other ointments, pain killer spray, etc. ready while playing or doing some outdoor activities. This is important because, in the summer season, injuries and wounds are badly affected by the sunstroke, humidity, etc. and don’t get easily recovered.
